Happy New Year! We're starting out the new year with a planned auto-core upgrade for GPU core 11. This is planned to happen Monday morning Stanford time. This will bring the GPU core to version 1.31, which has many improvements....

Sounds like this newer version includes some nice improvements.
The blog entry also mentions that the GPU3 core should be expected in early 2010 - this is expected by many to bring improvements especially to the performance of AMD/ATI cards for F@H. Currently the equivalent ATI card to most Nvidia cards produces 1/2 to 2/3 of the F@H performance, the GPU3 core should bring that more in line. Good to hear that the development of the new core is going well.

Well, I've been awaiting this update since its release.
No dice.
Renamed the original fahcore_11, so it was forced to download the latest version.

It didn't.

Still running the same core version as last year, meaning no change in anything's taken place.
Having trudged the Forum over at F@H, it seems I'm far from the only one, but am told the same as anyone else: "it will be automatically updated, once you're connected to the right server", which contradicts the statement regarding manually updating (i.e. the method I used).

Do I need to wait until GPU3 is released perhaps?
Suggestions anyone?

Strange issue you have there.
Mine automatically upgraded just fine, so I can't speak from personal experience.
Renaming the original to force a new download would have been my only real suggestion., sorry.
If I think of anything else I'll post back though, in the meantime good luck, and be sure to let us know if you find a fix.

Perhaps the issue is more with me having an ATI, rather than nVidia..
Wouldn't be the first time that ATI gets overlooked ;)

Cheers mate :)

Finally, from the forum, an answer:

Details which are generally understood by many but not explicit in the announcement:

* The FahCore_11 that is being updated is tne version used by NVidia. It does not apply to the FahCore_11 that is used by ATI.

"generally understood by many"
What a pompous man. I mean, all of us can logically presume that the world's users all run nVidia gfx cards, right?

Sheesh :/

I have to say, some of the members/moderators there are less then helpful.
It's assumed that because you have taken 2 minutes to register there and ask for help, you have also been following every development in the F@H clients since the very beginning, therefore you know the answer to your question, so why are you wasting their time huh?
Ah well ...
It is rather idiotic that this is mentioned nowhere in the announcement, also that it's taken until now to find an answer when at least 1 intelligent person and one semi-intelligent person (me and you jj, but not necessarily in a specific order) have been looking for the answer for a few days. That beggars the question, generally understood by who(m?) exactly?
I do follow several F@H related discussion forums, (including the official folding forum very occasionally due to the tone of the responses there) and didn't see this anywhere. Maybe I need new glasses, I don't know.

P.S. sorry if my grammar is somewhat lacking, another one of those days today where nothing is going right heh.

Found it HERE (http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=12847).
My earliest searches came up empty-handed. Today I used a much broader search and amongst the 300 or so hits, found this link about 7 rows down..

The reason it couldn't be found earlier was, because.. well, it wasn't there!

Cheers Calum :)

BTW.. cheer up mate. Always darkest before dawn ;)
Ur gramuhr is fein
