I came across this site while trying to connect to my sister's computer yesterday. She has an XP machine and she's not that computer literate...so, I needed something easy to use...which would allow me access to her PC...and not that hard for her to use, as well. Installing VNC wasn't an option here, due to the lack of knowledge on her part.

Remote Assistance wasn't working...and instead of trying to guide her through the settings she needed to change on her firewall and/or router...I had to come up with an alternative. That's when I found Techinline Remote Desktop - Browser Based Remote Support (https://www.techinline.com/default.aspx).

Although, I only used the 15-day free trial...it was well worth the time. For those of you who wish to purchase a license, $30 USD a month isn't all that bad for the convenience of providing this service to your fiends, family, or as a service for those of you who may be providing computer support as business, or as a hobby.

Using the service couldn't be simpler...

Register an account.
Confirm registration through your email.
Login with your username/password.
You will need to install an add-on for your browser.
Have the person, who needs assistance, visit Techinline.net and they will have to install the add-on, as well. They will also be given an ID, they give to you.
Enter the ID, name the session...and then choose what you want to do.

Techinline enables you to:

Remotely control any desktop anywhere in the world
Display your desktop to remote users and give control to them
Transfer files and clipboard content between the remote and local computers
Send and receive text chat messages

Now...there may have been other alternatives, but I was pressed for time and needed to get access to her PC as quickly as possible...without a lot of headaches.

So follow the link above, today...and check it out.

I personally use the TeamViewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx) client when I need to do this with people who aren't computer literate. I haven't been able to find someone who hasn't been able to not do it yet. Oh, and it is completely free for non-commercial use.

Not too bad. I used something awhile back that was also browser-based. I can't remember what it was called (Sky-something?), but it was very simple. Instead of just having a free trial, they had a free mode that only worked for about 15 minutes at a time.

Skyfex? I use it from time to time, it's still pretty good for quick stuff.

Yep, that's it! I only used it once or twice, but I thought it worked quite well. I have no basis for comparison, of course, but I also have no complaints.
