Wal-Mart begins selling iPhones this weekend, but without the anticipated mark-down in price. How come?

A retailer can't pass along a discount to the consumer if they don't get one from the distributor. Apple wouldn't budge on the price so neither can Wal-Mart.

Best Buy, in contrast, is currently offering the iPhone 3G models for $189.99 and $289.99 -- seven bucks less than Wal-Mart's "always low prices."

I guess it depends on who you purchase it from...

I would have to assume that Apple made more available to Best Buy so there was a sharper discount. If they sell well at Wal Mart then they will eventually get a better price. That's just speculation though...
