View Full Version : Norton Security 2k9 question
Hi all, long time no post. :biglaugh:
So, it's been a while, and in my long absence I bought a new HP laptop. My question is, it came with a lot of "Bloatware" and Norton Internet/virus Security 2009, I removed all the "bloatware", but would it be beneficial for me to remove Norton? Reason being is I hear a lot of people complain about how much Norton uses blah blah blah *insert other Norton hate here*.

I'm not a big fan of Norton products anymore...since they are so resource intensive. There are plenty of free products out there.
That and paying for a subscription is a big turn off.
If you have Norton Internet Security installed...you can find other free software to replace it which are just as good, if not better.
I'll let the pros recommend which is better for you.
All you really need is a recommended antivirus product, a spyware/adware product and a firewall...and you should be good to go.
Here's a great place to start: Malware Tools & Resources (http://glitchpc.com/forums/view.php?pg=malware_resources)
I was afraid it was resource intensive. Off it goes then. :D
I'll just stick with Free AVG, works wonders, or Kapersky.
Thank you. :)

You're welcome, Stix...but, before you decide. See what evilfantasy and/or CBMatt have to say.
Me...I'm a big fan of avast! I've never had any issues with it.

the first thing I did when I bought my laptop- was a complete reformat. a Bit drastic I'll admit.
I had Vista Ultimate to install onto it anyway, and a fresh start would be better then the "anytime upgrade" since I would be free of all the bloatware. (I wanted a nice objective opinion since this it my first experience using Vista)

I removed anything that wasn't needed, installed any programs I needed (steam, Visual Basic, etc) and today I'll make back up discs and install Kapersky. Hopefully, Kapersky does better than AVG, I haven't used it myself, but I heard it works well. :D
